“The Metropolitan Waste Management Group is committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. Replacing individual rubbish bins at each work station with the Planet Earth mini landfill Eco Bins is a great first step in reducing the amount of waste generated in an office space. A centralised waste station makes recycling easy for everyone. Recycling should be fun and easy to do. The implementation of Eco Bins in the office makes this happen”.

“Lots of great feedback from staff, appreciate the fact that Eco Bins are easy to use because it takes seconds to know which bin takes which waste”.

“Eco bins have allowed the removal of staff under-desk waste bins and are ideal for our workstation pod setup.
Both staff and cleaners like Eco Bins, their colours stand out and they don’t have to think where waste has to go.”

“The University of Western Sydney has implemented the Planet Earth Eco-bin system across all its student residences (approximately 1,000 students) and over 600 staff. The bins are lightweight and are a low embodied energy product that is 100% recyclable at end of life - a strong consideration when considering their purchase. In addition the Eco-bins are a good size for both office and residence use and a great, competitive price. The Australian standard colours are now becoming recognised across the University and implementation continues across all sites. Most importantly recycling rates are increasing. Staff feedback has been excellent as has the response to the mini desk bins”. (Please see below.)

MINI BIN TESTIMONIAL ...
“I just wanted to give you some individual feedback on the red desktop garbage bin.
When I was given the bin, I remember looking at it and thinking it must be a model of the one I was going to get, then realising it was in fact my new bin. I was pretty sure at that point it was going to be a failure - after all, how could it possibly be adequate?
Anyhow, its now a couple of weeks on and I have to say I'm amazed and I really like it. There's a sentence I never thought I'd say - I like my garbage bin! It fits a fair enough amount in it and it has the added benefit of making me get out of my chair when it is full and distribute the various pieces into the three bins in the kitchen. An incy bit of incidental exercise is part of the benefit.
So, well done. I hope it's taken up across the University”.

"Eco Bins are implemented in class rooms and facilities throughout The University of Ballarat.
We have found that the mini desk bin has dramatically reduced waste in departments and staff are genuinely receptive to changing to the Eco Bin System".

“Recycling is a great way to move forward as it gets everyone involved and quickly. Staff, students and cleaners can easily assess what waste goes where. The colour scheme is very clear and visitors have remarked great things. After looking at a few options eco bins are distinctive, unique & cost effective”.

"Started implementing in staff rooms as key locations early in 2010. By Mid‐year blue and red bins were rolled out into class rooms whereby students can participate.
Sorting of waste has significantly improved.
Colours are very important as with signage.
Over 3 sites, with 450 staff.
Organic recovery; bins are located in staff rooms, cafeterias, food technology, early learning centre and in toilets for paper towels....approx 270kg per week of recovered organics.
Have painted wheelie bins the same colour as Eco bins to keep the waste message consistent in the school yard.
All classrooms have paper bins for students to utilise and are emptied when required into the main skip for collection.
Education to encourage and reinforce the message for students (& staff) to use the bins properly".

"Very Very Popular.
People respond well to them
Those that see them want them.. (are now put into regional sites).
People don’t have to touch them – very important
People identify with the colours
Levels of contamination reduced.
Education, as well as the bins
They (people) don’t look at signage or colours. They look to see what is in the bin.
Andrea, would love to know if we are bringing more colours for batteries, CD’s and lighting???
Use 60L RYB – 30L organics, used to use 10L buckets previously, 30L size is great.
Patrick to provide factual figures on reductions".

“General Consensus is that Eco Bins look professional and it shows that we are serious about recycling. Eco Bins get far better use from staff than just signage on bins”
